Shillong, July 9: Seeing the potential of the sports players from the state, Sports minister zenith Sangma said that there is need to have an infrastructure called the Olympic Bhavan where different sports association can function.
Sangma also said that there is a need to enhance sports activities to boost different sports discipline and bring them at par with other states in the country even as he said that the sports players from the state has the potential to even qualify to the olympic level provided all requirements are being furnished.
In order to discuss on these certain issues and lapses that hinders upscaling of sports activities, Sangma convene a meeting with the officals of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA).
It may be mentioned here that MSOA is a parent Association looking after different Sports Association in the state.
Talking to media persons soon after the meeting Sangma informed that the major problem faced within the MSOA is financial constraints.
In trying to address to this problem the meeting came up with a solution and that is to send certain proposal for financial assistance to the association from the government.
However, as of now the meeting cannot come up with an exact estimation as there were 18 Sports Association affiliated to the MSOA.
