Shillong November27, 2013: The three days International Seminar on Cultural Heritage and Peace Education was started today at the State Convention Centre, Shillong. The seminar was organized by the Confederation of UNESCO Clubs and Association of India (CUCAL) in collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya where around 46 foreign delegates and Indian delegates from 16 states of India participated in the programme.
Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma in his keynote address said that in view of cultural heritage the organization are in the right place since Meghalaya has rich cultural traditions and can be seen as a focus destination in terms where culture and traditions are concerned. He mentioned about the traditional moral values of our forefathers which he felt that by preserving those values one can learn the art of living together in peace and harmony.
Sharing his insights about the history, functions and aims and objectives of the UNESCO, the Secretary General, CUCAL, New Delhi, Mr. Dhirendra Bhatnagar, informed that there are about 5000 UNESCO clubs spread all over the world working for the benefit of the people. Mr. Bhatnagar further expressed his concern over the present conflicts which are happening all around the world for which he emphasized peace education is of paramount importance for resolving differences between people and nations.(SP News)
