The Durga Puja celebrations have always been a big attraction within the region and the CPC appealed for the smooth carrying on of the traditions of the non tribals of the state as they geared up to celebrate the biggest festival celebrated by the community within the state. The CPC in Tura stressed on the fact that the pujas had been celebrated for than 125 years with aplomb and the tradition was something the whole community looked forward to, for the whole year.

The CPC is due to meet the District Administration of West Garo Hills to prepare for the next twenty days as people get ready for the festive season. The CPC is also going to undertake a Cleaning Drive of the neighbourhood of Tura on the 2nd of October to commemorate the birth of the “Father of the Nation” – Mahatma Gandhi.

Arup Nag, the Secretary of the CPC said, “For centuries we have been living together with our brothers from other communities in harmony. Our appeal goes out to all our NGO friends and we appeal for peace in the run up to the Pujas so that we can celebrate our festival with the same fervor as we have been doing throughout. We would request them to not call any form of Bandhs until after the festival. We are sure they too will join us in our celebration as every year”.(SP News)
