The two day CME programme on HIV and TB commenced at Military Hospital

 

 

Shillong, March 08: The two day Continuous Medical Education  (CME)  programme  on HIV and TB commenced on 08 Mar 2014 at Military Hospital Shillong. This CME aims at educating and reorienting medical professionals from civil and defence services about HIV and TB co-infection, and specific issues pertinent to northeast region of India.

The CME programme began with  a welcome address by commandant Military Hospital Brigadier MK Garg. Inaugural speakers were  Brigadier AK Upadhyay of 101 area and Dr Phukan  Medical Superintendent NEIGRIHMS. During the inaugural ceremony resource CD containing relevant information on the topic was released by DIG KK Verma Director Medical DGAR.

Dr Gautam Bongohain WHO R-ITCP consultant for North East India discussed the North Eastern scenario of HIV and TB during the scientific session. He highlighted the specific challenge posed in this region and strategies to encounter it. Brigadier RS Sankar commandant Base Hospital Guwahati (Haemato pathologist) discussed the pathogen and various diagnostic modalities used in patients with HIV and TB. Lt Col Indrakhi  of 101 area touched upon the psychological issue faced by these patients. The scientific session on day one ended with discussion on counseling in patient living with HIV and AIDS by Dr Veena F Bareh.(SP News)
