Jowai, Oct 27: The two days art workshop and exhibition organized by the Meghalaya Aware
ness Society for Communication (MASCOM) in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai and the Riti Academy of Fine Arts Shillong, which was held at the Thomas Jones Synod College Jowai campus came to a close on the 26 of this month.
The first ever Art Workshop cum Exhibition was inaugurated by Moonlight Pariat leader of the opposition Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council on the 25 of October in the presence of PS Dkhar Deputy Commissioner West Jaintia Hills, KK Kharkongor Principal of TJSC and other dignitaries. More than 40 students from different schools and colleges in Jowai took part in the two days workshop where renowned artist like Raphael Warjri of Riti Academy and Manoj Das officer in charge of Assam art gallery, Guwahati shared with the young artist basic skills of fine arts.
The Workshop cum exhibition has drawn a huge crowd who came to see the painting exhibited and appreciated the work of art displayed at the venue. On the second day painting of the student who took part in the workshop was also displayed alongside the painting of the well-known artist of the state.
Speaking at the valedictory function Raphael Warjri Chairperson of Riti Academy said that he was surprised to see that there are many talents in the workshop. The other thing that he was amazed at the is innocent of the paintings that was painted by the kids, the kids are still free from any kinds of influences Raphael said. Manoj Das has even spotted some talent and advised some kids to continue their studies at the National Institute of design after they has finished their studies. Manoj also said that there are ample scopes of career avenues that kids with talents in fine arts can explore; he said that kids can take fashion designing as their career; they can take industrial design, animation, architecture and many more as their career option apart from fine arts.
The other highlight of the program is also the painting of a giant canvass at Iawmusiang Jowai in which local artist like Dr. C.H. Pakyntein, C.H. Passah and a budding artist of the town Maradona Myrboh took part in painting the giant canvass.
Plielad Pohtmi of Thomas Jones Synod College sharing his experience of the two days workshop said that this is the first time that he has ever been exposed to this kind of workshop and exhibition and he feel that the workshop has help him allot. R. Lyngdoh another student who took part in the program said that this is the first time ever that he has seen ark work displayed for exhibition. At the closing function Martina Lytan EAC gave away prizes to the young promising artists.
