Corps turn robbers, three were arrested departmental action will be taken: SP

 

Shillong, Nov 17: It’s not an ordinary robber, but men in uniform were arrested   for their involvement in a robbery case at Shillong bye pass near Mawryngkneng village in East Khasi hills district.

Police have arrested A sub inspector Sudarshan Sangma, unarmed branch constable Claipson M Marak and MPRO operator constable Basant Lama on Saturday.

Interestingly, all the three policemen were all attached to the newly set up police station at Mawryngkneng village.

East Khasi hills Superintendent of Police  M Kharkhrang told reporters that all the three were arrested by the Shillong’s special police cell for their direct involvement in looting a truck (AS-01-EC-0515) loaded with non ferrous scrap (including copper, brass and aluminuium) worth Rs 20.10 lakh on November 7.

Kharkhrang said that on November 6  around 150 bangs of non-ferrous scrap including 51 bags of copper scrap of 2480 kgs, 34 bags brass scrap of 2273 kgs and 60 bags of allumunium scrap of 2625 kgs was dispatched from Silchar, which was robbed  by a groups after it reached Mawrynkneng village. Interestingly before robbing the vehicle was diverted towards Shillong by pass.

The robbers also used a white swift vehicle in the incident which belongs to the SI of the police station.

Initially police detained the truck driver, Saidullah Alam Laskar and the company’s staff Deep Kumar Nath for interrogation and based on their information the police could locate the actual culprit.

While the investigation is still on, Kharkhrang said, “The three accused have been remanded to five police custody by the court.”The SP also said that the departmental action would be taken against the three police personnel. (SP News)
