Till September this year, 1676 number of unelectrified villages was electrified

Shillong, oct ,07:Replying during question hour weather the power department has taken any steps to improve their performance in the implementation of the Rajiv Gandhi Grammen Vidyutikaran Yojna (RGGVY) after drawing much criticism from the Ministry of power over the same,  Power Minister Clement Marak claimed that “the Government is not aware of the criticism from the Ministry of Power over the implementation of the programme in Meghalaya.”

However, giving details about the steps taken by the power department to address the issue, the power Minister said that there are seven projects under the RGGVY scheme in the state, of which two districts are under the Tenth Plan and the remaining five district are under the Eleventh plan. “The total sanctioned amount of Rs 466.92 Crores is for electrification of 1866 unelectrified villages, intensification works in 3239 electrified villages are providing free electric connection to 1,09,696 BPL households.

Till September 30 this year, 1676 number of unelectrified villages was electrified, intensification of 2415 electrified villages has been completed and 90,227 BPL households have been provided with electric connections, representing a physical achievement of 90 percent, 75 percent and 82 percent,” the Minister said during his reply on the second day of the autumn session.

The power Minister Celemant Marak said in his reply that “the works under East Khasi Hills Distrcit have been completed and the Closure proposal has been submitted to the state Government which will thereafter be submitted to Rural electrification Corporation (REC) for the closing process. The works under Jaintia Hills Distrcit and Ri Bhoi district have also been completed, and the Closure Proposals have been submitted to the REC.”

In respect of Garo Hills, 90 percent of unelectrified villages have been electrified, intensification of 74 percent electrified villages has been completed and 81 percent BPL households have been provided electrification. “REC Limited has accorded time extention to complete all works by January 2014,”  the Minister said.(SP News)
