Shillong, November 11: A delegation led by Mr John F Kharshiing, Co-Chairman, MIDC, Govt of Meghlaya, Chairman, The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, Spokesperson, Federation of Khasi States, Bah Harlinjai Skhemlon, Sirdar Hima Mawdon, Secretary Federation of Khasi States, and Bah Hamphrey Lyngdoh Ryntathiang, Lyngdoh Hima Lyngiong, Joint Secy, Federation of Khasi States, from the The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, (Ka Dorbar Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar, Federation of Khasi States, Sirdarship, Dolloi and Council of Nokma) met Shri. Mukul Roy, MP Chairman, Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Group, in Shillong.
In the meeting the delegation express their appreciation for his letter dated 5 January, 2012, enclosing the memorandum addressed to Smt. Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister, West Bengal, and forwarding it to Shri. P. Chidambaram, the then Union Home Minister, Govt of India, urging him to inquire into the matter of the Instrument of Accession, and Annexed Agreement, of 17 August, 1948.
In view of the coalition dharna going on in the Indian Parliament, and in the country, Bah John F Kharshiing, Chairman, Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, along with the Chiefs, called on Shri. Mukul Roy, MP, TMC to continue to extend support to the demand of the traditional indigenous Chiefs, for the early fulfillment and implementation of the solemn commitments made by the Government of India and the Federation of 25 Khasi States
Shri. Mukul Roy, MP, Chairman, of the Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Party, assured the Grand Council of Chiefs that the TMC will take up the matter with the Union Home Ministry. He urged the Chiefs to come to Delhi during the upcoming Parliamentary Winter Session so that his party can take up the matter with the Government of India.
Mr H Skhemlon, Sirdar Hima Mawdon, Secretary, Grand Council of Cheifs and Secretary, Federation of Khasi States, also drew the attention of Shri. Mukul Roy, MP, TMC, to the difficulties faced by the people and their Chiefs living along the Indo-Bangla Border, due to the delay in opening of more traditional border (Hats) markets located within the indian border and requested the Chairman of the Parliamentary Party of TMC to take up with the Government of India for opening more border hats to uplift the economic condition of the people along the Indo-Bangla border. .(SP News)
