Shillong, June 07: The English and Foreign Languages University foundation Stonefor constructing a permanent campus at Shillong was laid down at Umsawli, Shillong todayby the Union Minister for Human Resource Development Dr. M.M. Pallam.
The Union Minister for Human Resources Development recalled the kind gesture of the former Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr. D. D. Lapang for allotted the required land to set up a permanent campus for the English and Foreign Languages University at Umsawli, Shillong.
The Union Minister while addressing the gathering said that English language is one of the languages that gave youngsters an access to communicate freely either within the nation or abroad. He, therefore, stressed the need to strengthen learning of different foreign languages besides English which is the need of an hour.
He added that English and Foreign Language University should not only concentrated on teaching, but also should be able to bring out faculties for different languages. The capability of knowing different languages reflects the richness of the culture of the particular state and the nation as the whole.
Dr Pallam laid the foundation in the presence of Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, Dr. D. D. Lapang, Dr. R.C. Laloo, Education Minister Government of Meghalaya, Smti Wansuk Syiem, MP, Rajya Sabha, Professor Sunaina Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University and other dignitaries.(SP News)
