Tomorrow the BSF will observed the 49TH BSF Raising Day

 

 

Shillong, Nov 30” On 1st Dec’2013 Meghalaya Frontier, BSF, Shillong is celebrating 49th raising day of Border Security Force. Meghalaya Frontier of Border Security Force looks after Border Management of 443 kms of International Border with the Bangladesh. In the area of Meghalaya Frontier, 09 BSF Battalions are deployed. Besides one BSF Bn has recently been deployed in Garo Hills for law and order duties.

Since the time of taking over, the BSF has initiated various programmes in the border areas to develop strong bonding between the BSF and the bordering people. Accordingly, BSF is reaching out to the border population through various interactive programmes as they are the most important stakeholder in the border management. BSF has organized following Programmes.

BSF has organized the Civic Action Programmes at Nine (09) locations in the bordering areas of Meghalaya in the month of April 2013. As may be informed that Civic Action programme are being conducted as a central plan to improve the quality of life and welfare of the border population, upgrade the existing infrastructure and create new avenues for bringing positive changes in the life of the border population. Various items like Power Tillers, Rice Harvesters, Water Pumps, Water storage tanks, Computers, GI pipes, School furniture items, Stationary Items, Wheel Chairs, Fishery items, Sports items, Colour TV with DTH, costing Rs. 50 Lakhs have been distributed among the villagers of 80 villages in the bordering area. The main objective in distribution of the items was to help people in generating income, which finally would help them to improve their living conditions. Medical camps have also been conducted simultaneously at Border where free medicines were distributed to the patients. Bordermen have also donated blood for the population of state and three blood donation camps have been organized during the year 2013.

BSF  under the aegis of BWWA, the pilot project on ‘Employment Linked Vocational Training Programme’ are being conducted by the BWWA in collaboration with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and its corporate partners at Tura & Shillong. The programme aims at providing employment-linked vocational training to the womenfolk of the civil population/ BSF personnel so that at the end of training they are able to get employment. The students are being trained in Basic IT, Retail Sales & Marketing and Personality development in Shillong and garment manufacturing in the Tura. Two batches of employment linked vocational training programme graduates successfully and most of the candidates have already got the placement at various firms located at Shillong, Pune, Bangalore and Kolkata. The cost of the training is being borne by the BWWA.

Bordermen have been carrying out intensive patrolling, mobile patrolling, Nakas, special Ops and using modern Surveillance Equipment’s for effective Border management. Following are the Operational achievements of Meghalaya frontier which shows the professional face of the elite force.(SP News)
