Shillong, March 19: The Shillong Traffic Police have decided to clamp down rash drivng in the city streets.
Following several complaints from different localities and areas that young boys turn the city streets as their racing tracks and as a result it causes several hazardous incidents and scared innocent pedestrians.
Speaking to reporter, (Traffic) Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), S Rynjah said that rash riding will now not be tolerated in the city roads.
“In a surprise ambush laid for such hooligan riders. The Shillong traffic police on Sunday and Monday caught a number of riders,” Rynjah said adding “Most of these riders did not possess valid licenses and proper vehicle documents.”
Besides, he also said that the department will come down heavily on young bloods trying to play with their own lives by over speeding, with no proper safety gears and also the lives of the pedestrians the ASP said adding “Strict action would be initiated against unruly riders”.
However, he also said that as though the city suffers traffic-clogged streets, this boys playing with their lives and others is not acceptable.
“If this boy wants to quench their thirst of thrill, then they can find a proper place, with proper gear and do their stunts and racing. No one is stopping them but this should not be a menace for the society,” Rynjah said. (SP News)
