Shillong, May 31: The Centre for Advanced Studies in Botany, NEHU and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin jointly organized a 4th awareness and training programmne on ‘Popularization and dissemination of Technology of Biopesticide formulation among the poor and marginal farmers of weaker sections’ under Prof. H. Kayang, Principal Investigator, DST Collaborating Project, NEHU for farmers at Pyndeng Umiong village of West Khasi Hills District on 31st May 2014 as part of effort to ensure lab to village transfer of technology.
The objective of this training programme is to create awareness about the technical knowhow on the use and function of Biopesticides and to make the farmers familiar with state of the art research technologies and dissemination of the recent scientific advances in the field of soil, and crop management without interfering with traditional organic farming methods and can be mixed with farmyard manure, vermicompost or compose manure. He informed that there are no major threats in the use of bio-pesticides formulations as it is eco-friendly approach and contains only beneficial micro- organisms.
The bio-pesticide formulation made of indigenous bio-gents can be active against different types of pathogens present locally. Further, the management of disease complexes will be successful when these formulations would be used. Hence any attempt in this direction would help in the development of indigenous formulations containing promising suitable, compatible bio-agents which will help in sustainable management of disease complexes in crops. Hence efforts will be made to disseminate the technology of use of combination formulations of Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus spp., Trichoderma harzianum, Trichoderma viride and Paecilomyces lilacinus (Purpureocillium lilacinum).
The bio-pesticides materials were also distributed to the farmers who come for attending the training programmne, where practical hands on demonstration on planting techniques & preparation of farm organic inputs & other cultural practices were conducted by the Project Representatives from NEHU and KVKs. The participants were given also reading materials for their future reference in the field condition. Altogether more than 55 farmers and participants from different part of West Khasi Hills attended the training programme.(SP News)
