Two day Bonsai show was organized at All Saint Cathedral Hall Shillong

The living root bridge display at the bonsai showShillong, Sept 19: The 20th annual bonsai show mounted by the Shillong Bonsai Society (SBS), an exhibition of exquisite bonsai plants was held at All Saints Hall, Shillong.

The two day bonsai show showcased Meghalaya’s traditional plant- pine, 50 years old oak plant, bamboos, fruit plants and many more.

During the show a two and half hour workshop was also organized wherein forty people participated.

Speaking to SP News Agency the Secretary of the SBS, Vishu Singhania said that nowadays one can spot bonsai plants in many homes, because they look so aesthetic and beautiful.

Bonsai is an art form originated in the third century in China. ‘Bon’ means tray and ‘sai’ means growing or planting.

“Part of the appeals is that bonsai live for a long time;they become a bit like pets, like a cat or a dog. People water, feed and fertilize and care for their bonsai on a daily basis. Affection comes into it,” Vishu Singhania said.

During the show, winners of 2013 were also announced. In large category P Lyngdoh was awarded 2nd prize, and the consolation prize was given to DK Saikia and Dr Debashish Dey.

In medium category, the 1st prize was awarded to P lyngdoh, the 2nd and 3rd prize was awarded to A Ghosh, DK Saikia and Bharat Pradhan respectively.

In small category the 2nd prize was again given to P Lyngdoh, and DK Lyngdoh and DK Saikia bagged the 3rd prize.(SP News)
