Shillong, June 25: Mr. M. S. Rao, Principal Secretary, Labour Department inaugurated the two day orientation programme on Labour Laws organized by the Office of the Labour Commissioner, Government of Meghalaya at Raitong Building, Shillong today.
The orientation programme was attended by Smti M. N. Nampui, Labour Commissioner, officers from the Directorate of Labour and Employment and Craftsmen Training.
Dr. Onkar Sharma, from V.V. Giri National Labour Institute is the resource person for the orientation programme. It may be mentioned that the V.V.Giri National Labour Institute, Noida is under the Ministry of Labour, Government of India and is an autonomous institute dedicated to research in the field of labour and training of labour administrators, trade unions, public sector managers and other related government functionaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rao said that the aim of organizing this orientation programme is to ensure that all officers of Labour and Employment and Craftsmen Training develop a common understanding about their roles and responsibilities in the implementation of various Central and State labour laws.
Mr. Rao, informed that the resource person will dwelt at length about the fundamentals of different labour laws which includes the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, Inter State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979, Unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008, Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976. Mr. Rao urged the participants to make the best use of the programme and take advantage of the expertise of the resource person by their active participation.(SP News)
