Tura, Feb 27: Two hardcore cadres of A’chik National Liberation
Central Army (ANLCA) were arrested by Meghalaya police in East Garo
Hills today.
The duo identified as Grewingston Marak and Sengpan Marak were held
from a public transport sumo at Williamnagar. East Garo Hills SP,
Jerry Marak said, “Sengpan Marak is the commander-in-chief of the
outfit, which has been carrying out extortion and kidnapping in East
Garo Hills district. The two cadres were proceeding towards Songsak”.
Jerry Marak told special weapons and tactics (SWAT) commandos led the
operation.
Police have recovered one 7.65mm pistol with two magazines, a bundle
containing 68 live rounds of 7.62 AK- rifle ammunition, a plastic bag
containing one AK-47 rifle with magazine, 10 SIM cards and four mobile
handsets.
Jerry Marak also informed that the Sengpan Marak was responsible for
kidnapping a village headman from Songsak last month.
“Senpan have executed several kidnappings and extortions in Songsak
and Rongjeng area in East Garo Hills and Dainadubi, Bajengdoba areas
under North Garo Hills District”, said Jerry.
Yesterday at around 12:30 am, locals in Mendima, North Garo Hills
lynched two cadres of ANLCA — Jehan Momin and Sengrang Sangma.
Jehan has succumbed to his injuries and Sengrang is undergoing
treatment at Dainadubi public health centre.
On Monday, one hardcore GNLA cadre Lethri T Sangma was arrested from
Salpara in North Garo Hills district.(SP News)
