Shillong, June 19: Under the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission, the first pond constructed in South West Khasi Hills District at Mawten Village was inaugurated by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills District, K L Nongbri on Wednesday.
Through the MSAM, the government aims at providing financial assistance to many fish farmers in the district.
Speaking on the occassion advised the farmers to abstain from holding fishing competitions in Government aided ponds as this can interfere with the production targeted from these ponds.
Nongbri emphasized on pond management to be a daily affair of the fish farmers and also appeal to the public to take part in conserving the local fish population of the area.
Later, as a mark of inaugurating the pond, the Additional Deputy Commissioner released fingerlings to the pond
Also present at the function includes M S Sangma ADC South West Khasi Hills District , the BDO of Mawkyrwat, A Nongbri, the Fishery Officer South West Khasi Hills District O L Passah, the village elders and the host of officers. (SP News)
