Shillong, May 16: The cyclonic storm MAHASEN lay centered near latitude 20.0 N and longitude 89.5 E over northwest Bay of Bengal (as on May 16, 2013, 5:30 AM, IST), about 990 km north west of Portblair, 310 km south-southeast of Kolkata, 300 km east of Paradip and360 km southwest of Chittagong.
It would move northeastwards and cross Bangladeshcoast near Chittagong during night of 16 May 2013.The system will move further northeast ward and cross Mizoram, Southern Assam, and Manipur before dying over eastern Manipur. There will be associated cloud covering entire NER.
Other than the core track of the cyclone (as shown below), but those will not cause heavy rain and/or wind.Tropical Cyclone MAHASEN forecast track (source: JTWC, USA). The shaded area indicates the area that will be affected by core of the cyclone. The circles indicate the area where the max wind will be observed. The wind will gradually decrease as one move out of the circles.
As per the report attached, it is unlikely that the cyclone will have direct impact on Meghalaya except for heavy to very heavy rainfalls in various pockets.
All the dist administration has taken following steps to met any eventuality if the Mahasen Cyclone hit the state the messure that has taken from is that, district disaster management committee asked to be alert for any eventuality.

Civil Defence and other authorities alerted for any eventuality, assessment of relief undertaken and enough stock of relief material, including food items available to be dispatched on a short notice to various part of the district.
