Shillong November 20: With an aim to adressine the problems of the rural populace who find it difficult to have a bank account, the State bank of India which is actively involved in providing banking facilities to the vast “excluded” section of the society through the business correspondent model opened an Urban Customers Service point at the MUDA complex, Garikhana on Tuesday.
Inaugurated by Urban Affairs Minister
, the banking facilities will be operated by the Khyndai Kyntoit Social and Cultural Organisation (KKSCO). It was learnt that the bank in its endeavour to serve the people of the state hoped that the urban CSP will cater to the needs of this section of excluded population.
It was also mentioned that the KKSCO using the internet platform and the Kiosk banking software of SBI will open saving bank account for customers. Thereafter deposit and withdrawal transaction can be done at the CSP without going to a bank branch of SBI.
The other facilities available at the CSP includes recurring deposit account which is flexible in nature and very much suited to rural people and small vendors who do not have a fixed minthly income.
Besides, the CSP will also help the Bank in sourcing small loans from theh small vendors that will be sanctioned by the bank officials whereas repayment of loans can be made through the CSP.
It may be mentioned here that in Meghalaya SBI has appointed KKSCO in February 2011 as its Bussiness Correspondent and KKSCO operating a CSP at Wahlang village under Mawphlang block since february 2011 and have opened SB, RD accounts and also making MNREGS payments through the CSP.
Accordingly, the Sbi has also tied up with BASIX to provide banking services through the Common service Ccentre (CSC) operated by them. (SP News)
