Sohra July 22: A large gathering of Sirdar, Sordar and Rangbah Shnong of Sohra area convened by the Synjuk ki Khlieh Nongsynshar Shnong, Sohra, held a meeting in the office of the Syiem Hima Sohra, recently . The meeting was convened to discuss the proposed KHADC Village Administration Bill 2013. The gathering was presided over by Paiem Freeman Syiem, Syiem of Hima Sohra.
The Synjuk Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar Shnong, of Sohra area also invited Bah John F Kharshiing, Chairman, Co-Chairman, Meghalaya State Planning Board; Chairman, Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, & Spokesperson, Federation of Khasi States, to enlighten the Village Chiefs on the proposed KHADC Village Admin Bill 2013.
The Chairman of the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya informed the gathering of Village Chiefs that the time has come for urgent codification of all our traditional and administrative laws. They were urged to provide their support to the KHADC Administration Bill 2013 and based on which they could further amend the Bill/Act if necessary to suit their local conditions or their customary practice.
He infomed that with regards to other contentious sections of the proposed administration bill the traditional Chiefs had recently submitted a memorandum to the CEM, KHADC and hoped that they would positively look into the matter.
After through deliberation the large gathering of village chiefs resolved to support the proposed Village Administration Bill 2013, but opposed the proposal for constitution of another parallel body within the same village to be known as Development Council which would disturb the social fabric of a ‘Dorbar Shnong’.
In this context the Synjuk Nongsynshar Shnong, of Sohra area resolved to send a petition to the CEM, KHADC to ensure that the views of the village chiefs are properly considered by the KHADC.
