Shillong, November 02: Who is prestone Tynsong asked the HSPDP while reacting to his speakced in one of the function who blame the land tenure system for lack of development in the state.The Minister of Forest and Environment valedictory function of Wildlife Week Celebrations at All Saints Cathedral Hall in Shillong which he touched the land tenure system.
The HSPDP accused the Minister of Forest and Environment as an agent of somebody, HSPDP feels that there is something behind this that made Shri Prestone Tynsong spoke in such a manner. Has the Minister understood properly the value of “Ownership” which signifies “Identity”?
HSPDP seeks clarification from the Minister whether his speech is his personal wishful thinking or the view of the Government. Changing the present Land Ownership system and allowing anybody to buy, sell, acquire and inherit any land will directly help the non-tribals to shift gear with us in terms of ownership.
The HSPDP, therefore, questions why the Minister is not learning from those areas falling in the European ward and come under Cantonment Jurisdiction? Where is our ownership and Identity in those areas? Does the Minister wish to see our state turning into another Tripura ?
HSPDP with a clear view states that we should strengthen the Land Ownership system, and going further, tries to “pluck the loopholes” present in the existing “Meghalaya Land Transfer Act” so that “Only the Indigenous Tribals of the State should be able to sell, buy, acquire and inherit any land among themselves”.
