Shillong, April 19: All political parties in Meghalaya are mum on the swap deal that sign between India and Bangladesh on the 6th September 2011 between the prime minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh and the prime minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina.
According to the agreement that was sign between the two country it will come into force only the parliament of both the countries rectified and adopted by the parliament of Bangladesh and Indian Parliament, In the agreement there 111 enclave hold by India will go to Bangladesh and 51 enclave hold by Bangladesh will come to India if the parliament of India rectified it.
The people of Meghalaya who reside in thus enclave were questioning why political parties from Meghalaya are mum on this issue, while the AGP in Assam, Trinamul Congress in West Bengal and the BJP are protesting against the land swap deal but the political parties in Meghalaya, the HSPDP, UDP, Congress, NPP are keeping mum.
The people of Meghalaya till date are keeping in the dark about the areas that will be given to Bangladesh and the areas that will be given by Bangladesh to India in the Meghalaya Sector. According to sources its was told that if the parliament of India rectified the swap deal Meghalaya will lost 258 hectares of land to Bangladesh.
Sources told SP News Agency that the total land hold by India in the Meghalaya sectors is 559 hectares. If the land swap deal ratified Meghalaya will lost 281 hectares and these area are from Lobachera in Jaintia Hills to Lyngkhat in East Khasi Hills.(SP News)
