Shillong Nov 27: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Day is celebrated in the Country by the NCC fraternity. Accordingly numerous functions are also being held throughout the North Eastern Region from 24 Nov to 30 of this month.
The year has seen 71129 children including 21065 girl enrolled as NCC Cadets in 288 Colleges and 731 Schools under 45 NCC units/8 Gp HQs spread across the seven States. The occasion is also being observed as Environmental Week and majority of the events are focused on preservation and conservation of the environment.
Concerted efforts have been directed towards reactivation of NCC activities in the North Eastern Region by encouraging youth to enroll in NCC and participate in camps within the North Eastern States and in other part of the country.
Keeping the aim of NCC Day celebrations, Environmental Awareness Rallies’, seminars, lectures on waste management, essay/painting competition, visit to old age homes and orphanage, blood donations and flash mobs have been held at Shillong, Guwahati, Jorhat, Silchar, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, & Kohima.
Cadets of NCC have also taken a pledge to endure the NCC Motto of “UNITY AND DISCIPLINE” on this annual day. All above functions are an effort towards continuance and strengthening of NCC activities in order to encourage the youth to actively contribute towards Nation building.(SP News)
