TURA, 28 Oct: The first workshop on the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance Scheme was held today at Don Bosco College of Teacher Education near here. The workshop was organised with the objective to familiarize and induct aspirants and candidates to the career counselling and coaching programme for various competitive exams being given by the prestigious Jain’s IAS Coaching Institute from Delhi.
Retired IAS A K Tigidi who is the Chief Counselor and Chief Mentor of the coaching centre at Tura while addressing the gathering urged the youth not to depend on the government for employment. He stated that depending on employment in the government sector would be a waste of time as openings were few because the sector is saturated. Tigidi, comparing the government and the private sector stated that the latter paid more dividends and that majority of the educated youth outside the state opted to obtain degrees and pursue their own line of business. Voicing his concern on the trend of the youth neglecting reading books Tigidi stated that the younger generations should make a habit out of reading so as to improve their vocabulary, communication skills and general knowledge. Commending Dr A K Jain for accepting to come and set up a coaching and counselling centre in Garo Hills in particular and the state in general, Tigidi urged the aspiring candidates to take advantage of the services provided by Jain’s institute and excel.
Dr A K Jain welcoming the aspirants to the workshop elaborated on the objective of his institute under the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance Scheme. He stated that the counselling and coaching circle aimed at ensuring, career counseling and coaching for Civil services at the Central and the State level, armed forces and other public sector services like nationalized banks and insurance companies. “Tura is blessed by means of basic education which reflects in the fluency of the English language by almost all the youth and that is a major advantage compared to the main land” Jain said while emphasizing on the need to focus on weak areas such as mathematics. He later wished the students all the best and urged them to be sincere and diligent.
