The university of Technology and Management hold seminar

Shillong Nov 30: The university of Technology and Management (UTM), Shillong organised a one-day seminar on “Global Trends and career opportunities in cloud computing and in electronics and communication engineering” at the UTM campus, Bijni Complex Laitumkhrah on Friday.

The one-day seminar on Global Trends and career opportunities in cloud computing and in electronics and communication engineering aimed at aimed at highlighting on the career oriented courses which will open a platform for the students to work not only within the country but outside as well and which will be able to transform their passion, skills and knowledge in this particular field into something worthwhile and useful

Addressing the gathering Parliamentary secretary Dr PW Khongjee said thatthough, Shillong is once known as the educational hub of the North East, yet the state still lacks behind in the field of technology and this has henceforth called for the need to upgrade to a new civilization for the state and the region as a whole.

“With the growth of technology, there is also a need to prepare our youth with the latest technological developments and to move beyond the traditional education”, Dr Khongjee said.

He also mentioned that through cloud computing, over 14 million jobs would be generated world-wide and about 2 million in India by 2015.

While expressing great expectations from this newly established university in the state, the parliamentary secretary said “We hope that this university will deliver the best to its students and to try its best like its parent university, University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES) in Dehradun to imparting quality education.”

 

Meanwhile, presenting a brief note on the performance of the university, Pro Vice Chancellor of UTM Dr SN Suri said till date, the university has enrolled about 76 students joining various courses including journalism, management, fashion, event management and the likes.

“The University aims to offer world-class education, training, research, consultancy, and outreach services to impart life-skills and ensure upward mobility of the professionals”, he said adding that it aimed to be a university that imparts intensive, high-quality technical and management education and has set for itself rigorous standards that lay premium on self-governance, regulation and excellence.

The other dignitaries present at the function included UTM vice chancellor Dr SJ Chopra, Registrar Deepa Verma UPES vice president Dr Satya Sheel and faculty members and students of various schools and colleges of the city.(SP News)
