Ampati, Sept 03: In pursuance of the Order of the Supreme Court of lndia in W.P.(Civil) No. 583 of 2003 and in accordance with The prohibition of employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act. 2013″ he practice of Manual Scavengers has been abolished.
Therefore, 110 person or local authority or any agency shall construct as insanitary latrine or engage or employ either directly or indirectly , a manual scavenger and any person so engaged or employed shall stand discharged immediately from any obligation, expressed or implied, to do manual scavenging.
Also, no person or local authority or any agency shall engage or employ eitlher directly or indirectly, any person for hazardous cleaning of a sewer or a septic tank Contravention of the Act is punislhable with imprisonment upto two years with a fine up to Rs. 2,00,000/- lakh upees or with both for the first contravention.
Any subsequent contravention is punishable with imprisonment upto five years or with fine up to five lakh rupees or with both. All citizens are requested to report cases of employment of person(s) as manual scavengers to the nearest Police Station for registration of the case.
