Mukroh village complaint to Home Minister of Meghalaya on the alleged intrusion of KAAC

Shillong, Dec 03: The village elders of the Mukroh village of West Jaintia Hills District sent complaint to the Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Prestone Tynsong who is also incharge home alleged that the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has intrude to the jurisdiction of  Mukroh village.

The complaint letter was sign by Mr. Chilangki Phawa Chairman, Mr.  Kitlang Maskut Shnong Waheh Shnong  and Mr. Precioustar Sten Secretary Shnong, the undersigned on behalf of the residents of Mukroh village bring to the notice and attention of the Home Minister regarding the latest intrusion by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) under the  jurisdiction of Mukroh village under Laskein C&RD Block &Barato Police Outpost of West Jaintia Hills District, Meghalaya.

That, as per notification dated October 25, 1968 notified by the office of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), the areas of Mukroh Village extends upto Elaka Labang Nongphyllut/Block-I or Moikoilum Village presently in the East Direction. But the State of Assam encroached to the areas of Mukroh several years ago and established its Forest Beat House within the area of Mukroh Village.

That, the residents of Mukroh village depends on fire-woods for cooking foods Etc, which are collected from the forest areas of the village since time immemorial. But, presently they are hesitant and afraid to go and collect fire wood from the forest areas of the villages due to the recent intrusion of KAAC.

The KAAC forbids the local residents to collect fire wood as the KAAC claimed that the forest area of Mukroh belonged to them. That, during the month of September, 2024, the KAAC cuts down the trees for constructing roads in Salang, Mukroh with the purpose of establishing tea plantation And the Dorbar Shnong Mukroh viewed this action of KAAC as an act of intrusion And trespasses to the area of Mukroh.

The undersigned already informed the District Administration of West Jaintia Hills District regarding the illegal construction of roads. They  would like also to bring  attention that although the district authorities from West Jaintia Hills visited the site and halted the work, the contractor, showing disregard for the law, continued with the construction immediately after the magistrate left Mukroh village.

Therefore, in view of the above, we kindly request that security be deployed 24 hours a day to prevent any further illegal activity and ensure that the law is upheld and to use your good office for stopping the ongoing construction of road and tea plantation project in Salang, Mukroh by KAAC.
