Shillong, January 20: Mindu Dorjee Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Match Commissioner and Abhishek Yadav Senior Manager, Club Licensing and Competitions of All India Football Federation (AIFF) along with the Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) today visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Polo shillong.
Their visit came after the AIFF proposed to the Meghalaya Football Association to hold two international matches in Shillong. These two matches proposed by the AIFF to the MFA will be played on March 19 or 20 this year before the international friendly match between India and Maldives. The AFC Asian Qualifying Round between India and Bangladesh will be played on March 25 this year.
Mindu Dorjee AFC Match Commissioner, Abhishek Yadav, Bah Hamlet Dohling President MFA and Chief Engineer of SSCM, found some shortcomings in the stadium where the grass in the middle of the field has begun to wither, as well as the height of the goalpost, the changing room for players and others.
Dorjee together with members of the Meghalaya Football Association also found a shortage of football grounds at NEHU to be used as a training ground for the teams.
Despite these shortcomings, the State is hopeful of holding these games, but the State Government together with the MFA will have to ensure that all the requirements are met before holding these two matches.
Drojee together with the MFA members also visited the Vivanta, Courtyard by Marriot and Windermere Hotel which will be the accommodation for the players and officials who will attend the tournament. .
