Shillong, Jan 29: The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) today announced that it will launch its own Shillong-based academy as part of its continued commitment to strengthening grassroots football development in the state.
The MFA Academy will focus on “structured training, long-term player development and creating a strong pathway for young footballers in Meghalaya to progress through the state and national football ecosystem”, the association said in a statement.
In this regard, the MFA will conduct open trials for young boys born between 2013 and 2016 to identify promising football talent and induct them into the academy.
The trials will be held on 6 February 2026 at the MFA Turf at Third Ground, Polo, here starting from 9am. Interested players are required to report on time and must bring a valid birth certificate for age verification.

While there are several academies already in Meghalaya run by clubs and other entities, the start of a dedicated MFA Academy will focus efforts to develop footballers for the state team right from the age-group categories up to the senior levels as Meghalaya aims to broaden its footprint in Indian football.
