BJP Meghalaya is deeply sad on the untimely death of labourers in Coal Mine

Shillong, Feb 06: The recent mining accident in East Jaintia Hills, resulting in many innocent lives being lost in a horrific manner has yet again put the spotlight on the menace of illegal mining in the state.

The  BJP Meghalaya are deeply saddened by the untimely death of the poor labourers and extend our heartfelt condolences to families of the dead, to the people who have lost their loved ones in this mind numbing accident.

They  also express gratitude to the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, for the prompt announcement of ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakhs to the families of the victims.

This unfortunate incident may have shocked national and even international media but we at BJP Meghalaya have been repeatedly warning that illegal mining is just another name for a disaster waiting to happen.

While the mining owner has been arrested after an order by the Honourable High Court, lot more needs to be done. We urge the state Government to initiate an immediate crack down on all forms of illegal mining and ensure that every person involved in such acts faces the strictest action under the law.

The BJP asked state and society can no longer turn a blind eye to the dangers of illegal and unscientific mining which only profits a few unscrupulous people and places the lives of countless peope in jeopardy.

The Government must ensure that the state of Meghalaya is purged of this evil called illegal mining, said Mr.  Maraiahom Kharkrang Chief Spokesperson BJP Meghalaya Pradesh.
