Shillong, Feb 24: The BJP Meghalaya Pradesh State General Secretary Mr. Wankitbok Pohshna today has sent letter to the Mr. Sunil Deodhar Founder My Home India on his recent remarks against the Christian community at theindigenous faith forum held in Pynter in Pynursla in the school gathering.
The BJP BJP Meghalaya Pradesh State General Secretary in his letter said that, “I write to you with deep concern, immeasurable anguish and utter disbelief when it comes to your recent statements, recorded during your speech in Meghalaya at the Indigenous Faith Forum and the inauguration of a school at Pynter in Pynursla subdivision”.
The remarks made by you during the course of your speech reeked of severe bias against Christians, contempt for the Holy Bible, you even mocked of the name of Jesus Christ as an outsider “dkhar”.
Such comments have caused hurt not only to the Christian community of Meghalaya but also to those who uphold the principles of Ekatma Integral Humanism, Sarva Dharma Sambhavna Respect for all religions and Sarva Dharma equality of all religions as the core values of our nation, principles that are echoed in our party – the BJP.
It is true that Christianity was formally introduced to the hills of the Northeast around 186 years ago, yet, history also records that the Apostle Thomas reached the southern shores of India nearly 2000 years ago. While there may have been historical acts of commission and omission, to entirely mock the Bible and Jesus Christ cannot be welcomed in a civilized society.
The State General Secretary of the BJP would also like to respectfully point out that our Honoured Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, holds Christianity in high esteem and has made his respect for Jesus Christ public on many occasions.
As you may remember, on every Christmas day, PM Modi himself reminds the nation of the teachings and life of Lord Jesus Christ, underscoring the inclusive spirit of our democracy. Reason why, people across the nation holds him in such high respect; all would do well to learn from him.
The BJP, all agree that the Seng Khasi and Niam Tre traditions of the Khasi and Pnar people must be preserved at all costs, and perhaps this is the intention of the current regime that wants to restore back the vast historical culture of millions that had been left out due to lack of commitment on the part of past Governments in addressing the genuine concerns of the indigenous population.
However, “we must also remember the clarion call of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who has consistently emphasized Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas and Sabka Vishwas and Atmanirbhar Bharat as the guiding vision for a Viksit Bharat. Religion is a personal choice and must not be commented on in public, especially if the words are despicable to say the least and intended to cause hurt.
Given your stature as a senior member of one of the largest social organisations anywhere in the globe, the RSS, which currently celebrates 100 years of service to the nation and also being former National Secretary of the largest political party in the world which is the BJP, your public remarks mocking Christians and their core belief deserve serious introspection. Such statements risk undermining the very values of unity and mutual respect that our nation’s foundations are built upon.
The BJP Meghalaya Pradesh General Secretary asked Mr. Sunil Deodhar to respectfully urge upon your good self to kindly retract your statements and issue a public apology. This will not only heal the wound that has been inflicted on many but will also reaffirm your commitment to the values of harmony, inclusivity and respect for all faiths.
