Shillong, March 12: The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills District stated that whereas curfew was imposed within the entire jurisdiction of West Garo Hills District vide Order No.CB.3/2026/18, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita on 10th March 2026 in view of the prevailing law and order situation.
And whereas incidents of violence, and disturbance of public peace have been reported in various parts of the district, posing a serious threat to human life, public safety and property; And whereas, upon careful assessment of the situation and reports received from law enforcement agencies.
“I am satisfied that continuation of stringent preventive measures is necessary to restore normalcy and prevent further escalation of violence; Now therefore, I, Shri Vibhor Agarwal, IAS, Distriet Magistrate, West Garo Hills District, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, do hereby extend the curfew imposed within the entire jurisdietion of West Garo Hills District for a further period”.
Accordingly, the curfew shall remain in force from 12:00 A.M. on 13th March 2026 until 6:00 A.M. on 14h March 2026, unless withdrawn earlier. During the period of curfew, no person shall move outside their residence within the limits of West Garo Hills Distriet.
However during the Curfew period there will be a relaxation from 9:00 a.m. morning to 1:00 p.m. evening on 13h March, 2026 in entire district of West Garo Hills District to facilitate public to purchase the cssential items including medicines and food items.
Further, all Educational Institutions, Banks, Commercial Establishments, Shops, Markets, Ofices and other business establishments within West Garo Hills District shall remain closed during the period of curfew, except those providing essential services including hospitals, pharmacies, emergency serviees, utilities and other services specifically permitted by the District Administration.
All law enforcement agencies, Executive Magistrates and police officers within West Garo Hills District are hereby directed to strictly enforce this order and take necessary action against any person found violating the curfew.
Any violation of this order shall attract penal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other relevant provisions of law. As the circumstances of the case are emergent and involve grave threat to public order, this order is issued ex parte.
