The JSU gives NHAI 30 days to fix crumbling highway or face agitation

Jowai, March 24: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Jowai Circle is taking a firm stand against the dangerous and rapidly deteriorating state of our newly built highway.

It has been barely two months since the contractor, PBPL, handed over the project, and the road is already falling apart. Massive potholes and crumbling asphalt are putting the lives of everyday commuters at severe risk.

The student organisation  have issued a strict, 30-day ultimatum to the NHAI and the contractor. They must take full responsibility, absorb the costs, and repair this road to proper national standards immediately.

If these demands are ignored and the site is not rectified within 30 days, the JSU will be forced to initiate severe agitation actions against the executing agency and authorities to protect the safety of our citizens.

Following our ultimatum today, JSU leadership spoke directly with the NHAI Project Director over the phone. He has personally assured us that repairing this highway stretch will be treated as an immediate, top priority. We appreciate the prompt acknowledgment and expect to see machinery on the ground right away.

The safety of the people in Jaintia Hills is not negotiable. They  are watching closely and will hold the authorities to their word, said Borntifulson Rupon in the press statement issued today.
