Nongpoh, March 27: Education Minister, Shri Lahkmen Rymbui attended the 8th North East Graduate Congress 2026, held at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya, in the presence of Tourism Minister, Shri Timothy D. Shira; C&RD Minister, Shri Sosthenes Sohtun; Nongpoh MLA, Shri Mayralborn Syiem; Vice Chancellor of USTM and students from across the North East region.
The 8th North East Graduate Congress 2026 is a three-day youth centric academic, cultural, and sporting event organized by the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya. The Congress aims to bring together undergraduate students from across Northeast India to foster talent, strengthen regional integration, and nurture leadership, while also providing a platform to engage with academic and industry experts. The event features competitions in literary, cultural, creative, sports, and innovation categories.
Addressing the gathering, Education Minister, Shri Lahkmen Rymbui highlighted the importance of such platforms for the holistic development of students. He emphasized that events like Graduate Congress play a vital role in nurturing young minds and providing opportunities for students to showcase their talents and abilities.
The Minister noted that day two of the Congress, which focused on cultural presentations, is particularly significant as it celebrates the rich cultural identity and traditional practices of the Northeast region. He stated that such initiatives not only preserve cultural heritage but also promote mutual respect, unity, and understanding among diverse communities.
Encouraging the students, the Minister urged them to actively participate in such programs, stressing that these platforms help build confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of unity in diversity. He remarked that the youth are the future of the region and must take every opportunity to grow, collaborate, and contribute positively to society.
The Education Minister also lauded the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya and its partners for successfully organizing the Congress and expressed his hope that such initiatives will continue annually, growing in scale and impact each year.
He further interacted with students from various departments of USTM, appreciating their creativity, innovation, and the skills they have developed through their academic pursuits. The interaction provided an opportunity for the Minister to witness firsthand the talent and potential of the youth.
