Polo hotels group launches ‘Clean Sohra, Green Sohra’ donate truck to Hima Sohra

Sohra, April 01: In a significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Polo Hotels Group, through its group companies—Hotel Polo Towers Limited, Shillong and Manor Floatel Limited, Kolkata—successfully implemented its second CSR project in Sohra by donating key assets for waste management to Hima Sohra.

The project, channelled through Rotary Guwahati Luit Trust, was formally inaugurated at Polo Resort, Cherrapunjee, on Tuesday, 31 March 2026. with strong participation from the local community.

The event was graced by Shri Mark Andrew Challam, SDO (Civil), Sohra, as Chief Guest, in the presence of Shri Kishan Tibrewalla, Chairman and Whole-time Director, Polo Hotels Group; Shri Mynjurlang Majaw, Acting Chief and Syiem Elect, Hima Sohra; Shri Maremdor, Advisor, Hima Sohra; Shri Alan West Kharkongor,  along with Myntris, Executive Members of Hima Sohra, members of the Hima Sohra Tourist Assistance Team, and representatives from Rotary.

This initiative forms part of the ongoing ‘Clean, Green and Safe Sohra Campaign’ launched by Hima Sohra on 26 October last year, with implementation to be carried out by Hima Sohra.

As part of the campaign, the following assets have been handed over for operational use, Tata 612 Tipper Truck for waste collection and transport ,Four Bajaj Pulsar motorcycles for patrolling and monitoring “Keep Sohra Clean” signboards for public awareness across key locations.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kishan Tibrewalla stated,“Sohra is not simply a destination on our map. It is the very heartbeat of what Polo Hotels Group stands for. For years, we have learnt that the most enduring businesses are those that leave the land better than they found it. This initiative is our pledge to Sohra and to every community that has trusted us to be a worthy neighbour—Clean Sohra, Green Sohra.”

Shri Alan West Kharkongor, Adviser (Tourism), Hima Sohra, expressed deep appreciation for the support extended by Polo Hotels Group towards addressing pressing environmental challenges such as waste accumulation and open littering. He further informed that a scientific waste management project will soon be implemented, aimed at providing a long-term solution to open dumping and positioning Sohra as the first zero-waste town in Northeast India.

Mrs Chandana Das, President, Rotary Club of Shillong, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of collaborative CSR initiatives.

Shri Mynjurlang Majaw, Acting Chief, Hima Sohra and Mr Maremdor Syiem commended the gesture by Polo Hotels Group and assured that the donated vehicles and equipment would be effectively utilized to improve sanitation, ensure regular waste collection, and maintain hygiene standards in Sohra—one of Meghalaya’s most important tourism destinations.

Chief Guest Shri Mark Andrew Challam, SDO (Civil), Sohra, expressed satisfaction at the successful implementation of the project and appreciated the commitment of Polo Hotels Group towards responsible and sustainable development.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed active participation from local residents, workers, Hima Sohra representatives, Rotary members, and senior leadership from Polo Hotels Group. The event underscored the importance of collaborative partnerships between businesses, civil society organisations, and traditional institutions in addressing environmental challenges in ecologically sensitive regions.
