Shillong, Sept 19: The 20th Rozgar Mela was organised today at 45 locations across the country, including Shillong, with more than 51,000 appointment letters being distributed to newly appointed youth for various government posts. With this edition, the cumulative number of beneficiaries under Rozgar Melas has reached a total about 12.75 lakh.
In Shillong, the programme was held at the State Convention Centre, where Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, was present. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the newly appointed candidates through video conferencing during the programme.
A total of 127 candidates in Shillong were given appointment letters during the programme. The newly appointed candidates will join various government departments and organisations, including the Income Tax Department, Indian Railways, India Post and other sectors.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Pabitra Margherita congratulated the newly appointed youth and their families. He said that the appointment letters mark not merely the beginning of a career but the beginning of a journey of service, responsibility and nation-building.
He highlighted the immense potential of the Northeast and said that improved connectivity and infrastructure are creating an ecosystem where young people can study, work, innovate and build their futures within the region.
The Minister emphasised that the development of the Northeast is integral to the development of the nation and called upon the newly appointed youth to contribute to India’s future with dedication, integrity and a strong sense of public service.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi congratulated the newly appointed candidates and their families, acknowledging the hard work of the youth and the sacrifices of their parents. He said that the young people joining government service have an important role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The Prime Minister urged the new recruits to take decisions that strengthen Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat, keeping citizens and their aspirations at the centre of their work. He emphasised that every government decision should help remove obstacles and create opportunities for citizens.
Highlighting India’s growing employment and entrepreneurship ecosystem, Prime Minister Modi noted the expansion of the country’s startup ecosystem, particularly in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, and the increasing participation of women and youth in entrepreneurship. He also highlighted initiatives related to skill development, apprenticeships and employment generation.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of transparent and accessible recruitment processes, including examinations in regional languages and facilities such as choice of examination centres. He also highlighted Mission Karmayogi, through which more than 1.72 crore users have registered for continuous learning and capacity building.
Emphasising citizen-centric governance, the Prime Minister urged the new recruits to continuously improve their skills and understand new technologies and systems. He said that the real strength of the government lies in the trust of citizens.
Calling upon the newly appointed employees to follow the principle of “Nagarik Devo Bhava”, Prime Minister Modi said that service to citizens is service to the nation. He expressed confidence that the new recruits would discharge their responsibilities with dedication, sensitivity, efficiency and honesty.
The programme was organised by the Office of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong. It was attended by Shri Darzakhum Songate, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong; Smt. Ningreirum Longvah, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North East Region; and Shri K. Meghanath Chowhan, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong, along with newly appointed candidates and officials from various departments.
