TURA, 17 Dec: State of the art technology equivalent to global standards has been installed in the intensive Care Unit (ICU) at . This was informed by Meghalaya Chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma today during the inauguration of the first ICU in Garo Hills, at Tura Civil Hospital.
The Intensive Care Unit was constructed under N EC scheme with a sanctioned amount of 2.46 crores of which ten percent was borne by the government.
Addressing the gathering Dr Sangma said that the eight bedded Tura Civil Hospital ICU set the benchmark for other ICUs installed state wide and that it rivaled those installed in prominent hospitals nationwide. He said that as the most important sectors like health care cannot be left unattended due to lack of resources and fund there was a need to strategize the infrastructure in the medical sector and prioritize them.
Adding that the newly inaugurated ICU is comparable to the best ICUs in the country he called upon the doctors to serve with a high level of dedication and commitment. He reminded the medical fraternity that they have become doctors with the help of the government and hoped this realization would enable them to provide better service.
Stressing on the recent analysis of civil hospitals across the state which revealed an immense gap of nurse to patient ratio due to dearth of nurses Dr Sangma said that 360 posts for staff nurses have been sanctioned. The Chief Minister also informed that all hospitals will be upgraded with various training and research opportunities for the doctors. Taking pride in the recently launched universal Health Insurance Scheme, he said that it is the greatest achievement of the government and urged the people to avail the scheme.
Optimistic that the ICU will do justice to the medical profession Dr Sangma implored upon the medical officers to ensure that it is accessible to all who need it while serving the patients with love and compassion.
