Shillong, Jan 24: The National People’ s Party (NPP) has come up with a confident statement stating that the party will be sweeping the upcoming assembly polls as it will win eighty percent of the 60 assembly seats.
With few more days to go for the Legislative Assembly Polls slated for february 23, twelve NPP candidates who are technically NCP legislators will be resigning in two days time to enable them to contest the upcoming February 23 Meghalaya assembly polls as the NPP candidates.
Making clear cut statement that the NPP will sweep in the upcoming election, Conrad Sangma who is technically the NCP legislative party leader and opposition leader informed that the candidates who are going to file from the NPP have set their focused and that is on the constituencties fronm where they are goin to contest.
Besides, Conrad also informed that in the 2008 assembly elections, the erstwhile NCP led PA Sangma had managed to win 15 seats in the 60 member Meghalaya assembly. Conrad, however, said the NPP now is confident of winning more seats now.
Conrad also said that the infighting within the Congress and the exclusion of names of sitting Congress legislators from the party list of candidates was as just expected by the NPP.
On the use of money power to influence voters, Sangma said he was sure that the voters know how to exercise their franchise as they are looking for a change.
Meanwhile, The NPP also announced the names of Prof PM Passah from Shillong North and MK Lyngdoh from Shillong South Constituency. The party has declared 35 candidates even as it has decided to extend support to three independent candidates.
The NPP manifesto will be release in the first week of February.(SP News)
