A meeting lasting for almost 2 hours, was held when Bah John F Kharshiing, Chairman, Ka Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, Ka Dorbar Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar Ka Ri Hynniewtrep, bad Spokesperson, Federation of Khasi States called on Bah Hopingstone Lyngdoh Nonglait, MLA, Basan Lyngdoh Nonglait, (Myntri) Hima Mawiang, & President HSPDP, to know his party’s stand on the IOA & AA 17 Aug 1948, and handed over a copy of the White Paper on Indian States – Khasi States which we have sourced from old records from parliament stating the unique status of the 25 Khasi States. The White Paper on Indian States was placed before the then Constituent Assembly (Parliament) during 1949 by Shri Sardar Valabhai Patel, Deputy Prime Minister, in-charge, Ministry of States (now known as Ministry of Home Affairs)
As part of the decision of the Fourth Special Dorbar Ri – Peoples Parliament held on 13 Feb 2013, among other decisions it was resolved to pursue with both State and National Political parties such as Congress, UDP, HSPDP, NPP, NCP, including Independent MLAs, BJP, and NGOs to work together towards this very important issue so that the Constitutional Anomaly is corrected by insertion of the IOA and AA in a Special Article and or a new Schedule.
The President of the HSPDP expressed his willingness to travel together to New Delhi to take up the matter and stated that he would discuss the matter before his party and requested Bah John F Kharshiing, Chairman, Ka Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, Ka Dorbar Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar Ka Ri Hynniewtrep, bad Spokesperson, Federation of Khasi States, to also seek a consensus on the matter with other political parties on this very important issue.(SP News)
