50 Higher and Secondary attended at the workshop on enhancing teachers’ at Ampati

Ampati, August 01:The Avenues Teaching for Tomorrow workshop on Enhancing Teachers’ Effectiveness, which is being attended by 50 secondary and higher secondary school teachers of South Garo Hills, was kicked off here at Ampati on Tuesday.

The four-day workshop, organized under Chief Minister’s Career Guidance & Counselling Scheme, is the first of its kind being rolled out by Shillong-based Group Avenues, a brand synonymous with youth empowerment and human resource development in North East India and recognized as the region’s leading grooming and communication skills training initiative.

During workshop, a team from Group Avenues, including Raj Kharnih, Lead, Business Development, Jasmine Laitflang Stone, Preeti Chhetri and Eurisa Khyriem (TPPM) will be conducting training in three steps based on the modules prepared to suit the teachers of the district.

This includes pre-assessment of the teachers which was conducted on the first day, communication (first impression, body language, emotional intelligence and assertiveness),  guidance & counseling, sharing of best practices through case studies, power stance drills, group discussions; understanding their pain points, lessons learnt and sharing experiences and finding solutions through team spirit and presentation skills and motivation.

Addressing the inaugural session of the workshop, Deputy Commissioner Cyril V.D. Diengdoh dwelt on the different aspects of education that teachers need to keep in mind and stressed the need for teachers enhance their skills as teaching includes motivation and inspiration to nurture the students. He also emphasized the need for teachers to develop communication skills in the students and imbibe the spirit of team work, creativity and values to enable the students to face life’s challenges.

He said that the workshop would help the teachers understand various ethics of teaching and also learn from each other and understand the problems faced by other teachers and expressed hope that the guidance and counseling they get during the workshop would greatly enhance their effectiveness as teachers.
Raj Kharnih of Group Avenues, Principal of St. Claret School Ampati, Fr. Joseph,SDSEO, Ampati, Ruby Zothanpuii Das and one of the teachers from the district also shared their thoughts and views on the occasion, while EAC in-charge CMCG&CS, Ampati Dimse A Sangma highlighted the objective of the programme. The inaugural session was followed by pre-assessment of the participating teachers which was conducted in two groups. The four-day workshop will conclude on August 4, 2017 with a felicitation ceremony to be conducted by Mark Laitflang Stone of Group Avenues.
