Maligaon, March 29: The N. F. Railway is continuing its Freight Train Operation round the clock engaging staff in train operation and other infrastructural maintenance works.
This is imperative in view of the need of continuous supply of essential commodities like Sugar, Salt, Food Grains, Coal, Fertilizer and POL throughout the country.
Everyday goods rakes loaded with essential commodities are being unloaded in various goods sidings all over NFR for distribution amongst local population so that there is no scarcity.
While railway staff deployed for performing essential services at different locations viz goods sheds, stations, control offices etc are working round the clock for smooth plying of freight trains; it is also ensured that bare minimum staff are deployed for goods train operation at places viz goods offices, stations, control office, security personnel, infrastructural maintenance etc.
Thermal screenings of staff are being done before commencement of duty. Proper sanitization of work place is done and staff working are using mask, practicing social distancing while on duty and use of sanitizers and hand wash are being ensured. Railway Locomotives, Coaches& colonies are also being sanitized.
Fitness of officials and their family members regarding symptom of COVID -19 as per norms of WHO are being closely monitored. Training on reception and transportation of suspected COVID – 19 patients and ventilation has been imparted in various Railway Hospitals to doctors and paramedics.
Railway staff in various divisions is making masks and sanitizers for use by essential staff on duty. Home delivery of essential commodities like groceries, vegetables etc. are being arranged in various locations in order to restrict unnecessary movement of staff looking for essential commodities.
Staff of various workshops has taken initiative in extending help to Railway Hospitals by repairing patient beds, oxygen trolleys, stretcher wheels, saline stands etc. which are very crucial for medical support.
Safe distance is being ensured, overcrowding is avoided for labourers at goods yards and sidings. Soaps and hand washing facilities have been provided to them. Stations are being cleaned regularly in spite of suspension of passenger train operations.
Indian Railways is also converting train coaches into isolation wards to prepare for a fight against corona virus pandemic to meet the increasing demand for beds in the isolation wards. Such plans and steps taken will help us be well-prepared to meet any emergency.
