TURA, 15 Nov: In a bid to promote and encourage football amongst the youth an Inter Polling Station Soccer Cup tournament was yesterday organised for the first time in Dadenggre Civil Sub Division by the National Peoples youth Wing under the leadership of Rongchu Constituency MMLA, James K Sangma. This is the first time such a tournament has been organised in Garo Hills. The tourney was participated by forty teams from all the polling stations of Dadenggre constituency.
Speaking to the gathering Selsella MLA and leader of the opposition Conrad K Sangma commended the organizers for organizing such a unique competition and said that he would hold such tournaments in his constituency in the near future. Lamenting the dearth of organizations working for the promotion of sports Sangma said that the NPP was doing a commendable job by urging the youth to participate in various tournaments organised by hem in different venues throughout Garo Hills.
James K Sangma speaking on the occasion said that the tournament is being organised to enable talented youth to seriously compete in competitive sports like football and minimize hiring of players from outside for tournaments.
Dadenggre Polling station emerged as winners of th tournament by drubbing Dalanggre Polling Station 1-0. The winners were awarded trophies, medals, certificats and cash awards. Among others who spoke at the occasion were Rongrenggre MLA and NPP youth leader Marcus N Marak.(SP News)
