Shillong, Feb 04: The Joint Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, District Council Affairs Department in a notification issued on 3rd February, 2021 has informed that the General Elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council will be held on the 9th April, 2021.
The General Elections to reconstitute the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council could not be conducted as scheduled, that is, before the 19th October, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred under rule 129 of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951, as amended.
The Government of Meghalaya has ordered the preparation of Electoral Rolls of every District Council Constituency of the Garo Hills in accordance with the aforesaid Rules and as per the calendar specified in the schedule, for the purpose of holding the General Elections, 2021 for re-constitution of the said Council before the expiration of the Administrator’s Rule on 19th April, 2021.
Publication of draft Electoral Roll {Rule 129 (1)} is on 04.02.2021, last date for filing claims and objections {Rule 129 (3)} on 18.02.2021, disposal of claims and objections {Rule 129 (3)} on 01.03.2021 and publication of Final Electoral Roll {Rule 129 (4)} is on 06.03.2021.
