TURA, Sept 11: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi condemning the attack on his staff and the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) on 10th last by Garoland statehood activist has warned that appropriate penal action will be taken against the perpetrators. Garoland statehood activists had reportedly barged into the Deputy Commissioner’s office and DRDA on Tuesday last and started verbally assaulting the staff, even manhandling women employees.
Expressing horror and angst against the intrusion into the deputy Commissioner’s office and the DRDA by statehood activists, most of them students, Bakshi has termed it a premeditated cowardly attack aimed at criminally intimidating the innocent employees doing their duties.
“The cowardly act exposes the criminal intentions of the perpetrators to humiliate and torture citizens and women, government officials and staff on duty which cannot be tolerated” stated Bakshi. Tuesday’s act invites penal action of relevant sections of the law for criminal trespass, criminal intimidation, threatening with dire consequences, assault and disruption of functioning of government servants and appropriate action will be taken he informed.
Taking strong notice of the brazen attack especially on women, Bakshi informed that he has notified the higher authorities and will also inform the State and National Women’s Commission respectively. He also stated that in the future no permissions for any demonstrations, sit-ins, dharnas or NCM shall be given to the organizers.(SP News)
