Shillong, Sept 11: With an aim to increase the employability of Meghalaya’s youth and provide an exposure and gainful employment to the unemployed youth to the best of Corporate India, a two-day Placement Drive was organised at ITI Rynjah, Shillong on the 9th and 10th of September 2019.
The event was conducted through the Labour Department under the Government Project the “Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya”(SHCDM) assisted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The event was conducted following a series of Pre-Placement Drives which was conducted within the State at Don Bosco Hall, Laitumkhrah, Youth Hostel, Shillong and Dorbar Hall, Sajer, Nongpoh.
These pre-placement drives have led up to this Placement drive wherein 415 candidates appeared for interviews with different employers and close to 320 candidates got selected for jobs in various sectors. Few candidates from Mechanical, Civil and Automobile Engineering background got an opportunity for an internship programme in Japan.
Most of the candidates who appeared for the interview were freshers and some even got selected by up to four employers. The quality of youth for various job roles has been lauded by the employers wherein the selection rate is more than 75% which is the highest compared to other States.
With over 2600 as target for salaried employment and 500 for self-employment/ entrepreneurship as the mandate, similar drives will be conducted again in various parts of the State.
The Placement Drive was organised with the support of the Project NGO, Aide et Action jointly with IPE Global in partnership with CII -the Managed Services Operating Partner of the Labour Department, Government of Meghalaya.
