ACHIK complaints to the OC of Tura on smuggling of blankets to Bangladesh  

Shillong, Dec 28: The Organisation ACHIK sent written complaints to the Officer Incharge Tura Police Station as they were suspected that illegal smuggling ot blankets from Tura region to Bangladesh.

In the complaints the organsation stated that they have received multiple inputs and information over the past few weeks regarding the illegal transportation and smuggling of blankets to Bangladesh through this region.

In c onnection with the same, on the midnight of 27th December 2025, they have witnessed a truck bearing registration number AS01-TC-9745 fully overloaded with blankets passing through the Araimile area under suspicious circumstances.

Suspecting foul play, they followed the said vehicle and managed to stop it. Upon inquiry, the driver stated that the truck was loaded with blankets and was proceeding towards Mahadeo , South Garo Hills, Meghalaya.

When further questioned regarding the purpose of transporting such a huge quantity of blankets towards the remote villages of South Garo Hills, the driver shockingly admitted that the goods were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh.

He further displayed his mobile phone, wherein, the amounts of tolls collected illegally by certain Departments, groups have been recorded. Hence, his mobile handset may be confiscated legally for thorough enquiry.

ACHIK said that the driver statement left them deeply concerned. Considering the seriousness of the matter, they immediately instructed the driver to proceed towards Tura Police Station for proper verification of the goods, including invoices, E – way bills, GST documents, and other relevant papers.

ACHIK said that  when Bangladesh continues to provoke India, such illegal smu ggling activities not only cause huge revenue loss to the Government of India through taxe vasion , but also pose a serious threat to national economic and security interes ts by indirectly strengthening the economy of a neighboring country through unlawful means.

Therefore, in the interest of national security, economic integrity, and rule of law, they humbly request your good office to kindly, thoroughly verify the source and destination of the goods, examine the E – way bills, GST documents, invoices, and transport permits, and Initiate appropriate legal action as per law if any violation is found in connection with this abnormal and suspicious transportation of Indian goods towards the remote areas of South Garo Hills.
