All Khasis posted in Garo Hills have proper security: KHNAM

Shillong, Feb 4: Expressing grieved and anger against the recent attack that took place at Williamnagar jail, various termed it as an act which is against the human laws.

The  recent attack of the Williamnagar jail claimed two lives one assistant jailor Neil Warjri who died during the attack and Warder Sharai Singh Thabah, who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Various other sections of the society also condemned the attacked that took place on Saturday at Williamnagar by militant groups.

As a mark of expressing grief over the lost of the two recious lives, the KSU Nongthymmai circle will call for a 3-hour closure of all the shops in Nongthymmai on Tuesday from 11am to 2pm.

“The attack by militants has let to an untimely death of two presious lives”, KSU Nongthymmai circle general secretary Eric Nongkynrih said while also extended his condolence to the bereaved families.

Terming the attacked as cowardly act, the Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC) condemned the attacked at the Williamnagar Jail.

“These attacks are against both divine and human laws and we offer our deepest condolences to both families” said MPHRC Information & Public relation Secretary Pynskhem Syiemlieh while calling for the swift apprehension and punishment of the perpetrators.

MPHRC Secretary General Dino D.G. Dympep said that “There is no cause that justifies this type of an immoral and inhumane act and we call upon our justice system to maintain strict standards of justice and fairness in these trying times”.

Besides, the MPHRC also urged upon the government to see that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to book and that law and order is maintained to prevent any communal disharmony for a peaceful co-existence.

Also expressing shock and resentment over the attack the A’chik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO) and the All India Garo Union (AIGU) also blamed the the negligence of polices on duty to sound an alert

AIGU President Albert Marak said polices should make sure that enough security is assured to its citizens. “This shows the failure of the police to tackle the law and order situation in Garo Hills”, he added.

Meanwhile, the AYWO has demanded for an immediate Inquiry Commission to be set up for in-depth inquiry into this entire barbaric incident. “We also appeal to all the militant outfits not to indulge in criminal acts that is likely to create communal tension”, president of AYWO A Momin said.

On the other hand, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) while condemning the cold blooded murder of two innocent Khasi people, Neil Warjri and Sharai Sing Thabah said the killing strongly reeks of the anti-Khasi stance of the outfit also demandedan explanation from the GNLA on the cold blooded murder of the two innocent Khasi men on the night of February 2.

“The information that the execution happened at a time when both the Khasi gentlemen were on duty and the dragging out and execution in cold blood but did not try to effect a jail break or any other objective clearly indicates an ulterior motive against Khasi people”, KHNAM president Pyndap Saiborne said adding that the Government should ensure that all Khasis posted in Garo Hills have proper security adding that the militants should refrain from such atrocities against the Khasi Community in future for the sake of peace and harmony in the state.(SP News)
