Shillong, April 03: In a joint operation, on 02 Apr’ 2024, the vigilant troops of 181 Bn BSF Meghalaya along with Meghalaya police successfully intercepted three vehicles loaded with a huge quantity of Sugar meant for smuggling into Bangladesh and also apprehended 03 Indian Nationals near the Gasuapara bordering area under South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.
Based on specific information, BSF troops along with Meghalaya police planned a special operation and laid a Mobile check post (MCP) near Gasuapara and intercepted three vehicles loaded with more than 70,000 Kgs of Sugar.
Upon questioning, all the three drivers failed to produce valid documents about the consignment of Sugar. The seized items and apprehended persons were handed over to the Police Station – Gasuapara for further legal action.
In the first quarter of current year, vigil troops of BSF Meghalaya seized approx. 1188 tons of Sugar, which was intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh through the International border of Meghalaya.
