Capacity-building workshop on digital transformation concludes at CWSSU,Balalgre

Ampati, Dec 12: A four-day capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening AI readiness and digital transformation in higher education successfully concluded at Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU), Meghalaya, at its campus premises, Balalgre in South West Garo Hills on Thursday.

The four-day program, held from December 8 to11, 2025, was organised in collaboration with St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, and supported by the North Eastern Council, Shillong.

As AI-driven tools rapidly reshape global education—marked by innovations such as ChatGPT reaching 100 million users within two months—institutions in the North Eastern Region are preparing to address emerging opportunities and challenges, including academic integrity, algorithmic bias, and ethical implementation.

This initiative offers a structured framework for integrating AI tools into teaching, learning, and research. By equipping educators with adaptable skills and fostering collaborative academic networks, the program transforms AI from a potential academic concern into an asset for strengthening critical thinking, research excellence, and institutional innovation.

Shri Lawmna Kima, Founder & CEO, LushAITech Pvt. Ltd and Executive Director, AI & Data Practice, Ernst & Young (EY) GDS India, Dr. Ujjal Marjit, Head, Centre for Information Resource Management (CIRM), and Dr. Tiatemsu Longkumer, Sr. Lecturer, Royal Thimpu College, as main resource persons provided hands on training to the faculty and academic administrators across the region, building essential skills in responsible AI use.

Participants engaged in sessions on AI literacy, prompt engineering, critical evaluation of AI-generated content, and verification strategies designed to uphold scholarly rigor while enhancing research productivity.

The workshop was inaugurated by Smt.Hema Nayak, Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills on December 11 in the presence of its Convener, Dr. Temjenkala Jamir and Organising Committee members, Shri Earic Wanlambok Sohtun and Dr. Rajesh M. Marak of the Department of Philosophy, CWSSU.

With Dr. Vasanthi Vijayakumar, Vice Chancellor, CWSSU, as its chief patron and Rev. Fr. Dr. Arcadius Puwein, SDB, Principal, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, as patron, this workshop marked a significant step toward empowering higher education institutions in the Northeast to harness AI for sustainable academic and regional growth.
