Shillong, March 03: The Joint Coordination Committee on Reservation Policy (JCCRP) has formally expressed its rejection of the Reservation Report submitted by the Expert Committee. In this regard, the JCCRP has reiterated its demand that the existing 80% reservation be equitably divided among the Khasi, Jaiñtia, and Garo communities.
In a meeting convened today, the JCCRP brought together all affiliated organizations under its umbrella, along with prominent intellectuals and representatives from the Jaiñtia Hills region. The meeting resolved to collectively demand justice and the rightful share for the people of Jaiñtia Hills, grounded firmly in the provisions of the Constitution of India.
The JCCRP emphasized that any policy framework concerning reservation must be structured in accordance with the constitutional recognition of the three Autonomous District Councils — the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
Furthermore, the JCCRP has urged the MDA Government to conduct a comprehensive Socio-Economic Survey across all three Autonomous District Councils to ensure that future policy decisions are data-driven, fair, and reflective of ground realities.
