Shillong, March 17: Dr Azad Zaman MLA from 47-Rajabla Constituency submitted memorandum to the Chief Minister Mr Conrad K Sangma for the creation of the new District with West Garo Hills District with the headquarter at Rajpur.
In the memorandum Dr Azad ha mention that in 2012, the Plain Belt District Demand Committee has submitted the memorandum for the same demanding for the creation of the new District for the plaint belt area in West Garo Hills District.
In the memorandum, Dr Azad pointed out that the Government has created North Garo Hills District and South West Garo Hills District, during that same period the PBDC on 20th March 2012 have submitted memorandum to the government demanding for the District for the plaint belt area with the headquarter at Rajpur.
The MLA from Rajabla pointed out that the need for the District in the plain belt area is for administrative convenience so that the distances from the District headquarters from the remote villages will be reduce. This will help for better monitoring of government schemes and to maintain law and order.
Dr Azad pointed out that the population of the area is 2.5 lakh, with the creation of the new District will stop rural migration to the urban area and will open up new avenue to the rural people and to bring administration closer to the people.
To substantiate for the demand of the new District, Dr Azad point out that the area is comprised of three C&RD Block, Selsella, Demdema and Tikrikilla, the total numbers of villages are 544, having 36 GS Circle and population of 2.5 lakh.
The area comprised of five Legislative Assembly Constituencies, For MDCs Constituencies, there are five colleges, 21 High School, 43 Secondary Schools, 110 Upper Primat Schools, 285 Lower Primary School.
The area also comprised of 35 temples, 100 Mosque, 70 Churches, there are 30 markets place and the District from Phedaldoba to Tura is 170 KM. In the memorandum Dr Azad mention that for the creation of new District there are no criteria.
The name proposed for the new District Dr Azad has left to the government to name it, the MLA from Rajabla in the memorandum urged the Chief Minister to include in the upcoming budget presentation for the creation of the new proposed District for the overall development of the area.
